DOOR’s Dwell program is for individuals aged 18-30 to spend a year living in intentional Christian community while serving in a local agency placement, worshiping in an urban congregation, and reflecting together as a community. Dwell participants serve at an agency placement four days a week with the fifth day set aside to spend time reflecting, serving, studying, and discerning with each other. Dwell gives individuals an opportunity to be part of God’s transforming work in the city. It can be a period of residency to test, refine and prepare for a long-term call to urban ministry. The year in the city is mutually beneficial with both the residents of the city and the participants helping one another to grow into the persons God has called them to be.

Examples of agency placements:

  • Advocacy and outreach to the homeless
  • Elderly daycare center
  • Women’s and children’s shelter
  • Food, tool, and furniture banks
  • Immigrant community centers
  • Interfaith worker justice
  • Rescue Mission
  • Work with new and established congregations
  • In school and after school work with youth

Also a part of DOOR is Discern and Discover, which are short term and semester long programs.

Rolling through June 1, or until placements are filled.  However specific placements in specific cities will be filled as applicants are selected. Apply as early as possible.
